IEEE-USA and Small Business Administration Partner to Assist High-Tech Entrepreneurs

To assist high-tech entrepreneurs starting new businesses, IEEE-USA and the U.S. Small Business Administration have signed an agreement pledging mutual cooperation in promoting, strengthening and expanding small business development throughout the country. According to IEEE-USA President Gordon Day, the agreement will benefit IEEE members who are starting their own technology-based businesses. more

Call for Nominations: 2009 IEEE-USA Awards
IEEE-USA is seeking nominations for 2009 awards for recognition of professional, technical and literary contributions to public awareness and understanding of the engineering profession in the United States. The deadline for IEEE-USA's awards nominations is 31 July 2009. Full awards descriptions and nomination forms can be found online.

New IEEE-USA E-Book: Doing Innovation
This new IEEE-USA e-book is the first in a series of four written to provide the basics for gaining an understanding of what innovation involves, what it takes to be an innovator, and what it takes to develop a culture where innovation can thrive. Doing innovation is not a "how to" book series: its purpose is to learn and apply the fundamentals in the context of the organization’s purpose and associated values. STEM Measures Workshop
Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are driving economic and social advancements around the globe. But the U.S. STEM enterprise is lacking metrics for measuring the effectiveness and impact of the many STEM initiatives and funding streams. IEEE-USA is co-sponsoring a one-day workshop on STEM Measures for Innovation and Competitiveness, 21 October 2009, in Washington, D.C., to try to answer some of the important questions facing the STEM enterprise.

IEEE Accessing the Future Conference (20-21 July)
Accessing the Future is a first-of-a-kind conference dedicated to identifying the next generation of accessibility challenges and the impact of technology five to ten years in the future. An IEEE international conference organized in partnership with IBM, and hosted by Northeastern University in Boston, Accessing the Future will bring together leaders from government, academia, industry and advocacy groups to define key accessibility standards and future technology roadmaps to build a smarter, more accessible world. more

TryNano Web Site Goes Live
Created through a colloboration between IEEE, IBM and TryScience.Org, the TryNano website is a resource for anyone interested in learning about nanoscience and nanotechnology, and includes information targeted at both pre-university and university students, teachers, and school councilors, as well as technical professionals. more

2008 IEEE-USA Annual Report Available Online
The 2008 IEEE-USA Annual Report includes detailed sections on Dr. Russell Lefevre's activities as 2008 IEEE-USA president; 2008 U.S. presidential election-year involvement; congressional briefings; U.S. government fellowships and Washington Internships for Students of Engineering; joint activities with and in support of other IEEE organizational units; e-books; student professional awareness conferences; and completion of the IEEE's new Washington Office. more
